NHDES estimated the leak at about 30 gallons of diesel fuel, the department said through Fitzwilliam Fire & EMS.
Emergency crews from several towns and state agencies gathered Saturday morning at Laurel Lake after a submerged vehicle was found leaking fuel, according to Fitzwilliam Fire & EMS.
Firefighters from Fitzwilliam arrived at about 11 a.m. and discovered an active diesel release coming from the vehicle underwater. To keep the contamination from spreading, crews worked with the Keene Fire Department, Winchendon Fire Department, Troy Fire Department, Troy Police Department and the N.H. Department of Environmental Services to place a solid containment boom around the spill area. Additional booms were set farther downstream as a safeguard.
NHDES estimated the leak at about 30 gallons of diesel fuel, the department said through Fitzwilliam Fire & EMS.
The vehicle was later lifted out of the lake by the Winchendon Fire Department dive team and J&J Truck Service. The Fitzwilliam-Troy ambulance remained on standby during the response.
The release did not explain how the vehicle entered the lake or whether anyone had been inside it.
