Former superintendent and spouse enter not guilty pleas in connection to teen fatality

On Monday morning, a former school superintendent and her husband denied any wrongdoing regarding the case of a teenager who tragically lost her life in a car accident after consuming alcohol. Kristin Hubert and her husband, John-Henry Hubert, are charged with a felony related to allegedly providing alcohol to a minor, which led to the girl's death.

The couple faces accusations stemming from an incident in November 2024, when 17-year-old Macy Piersiak was reported to have consumed alcohol while at the Huberts’ residence. According to data retrieved from GPS, Piersiak departed from the home at approximately 3 a.m., shortly before crashing into a tree, resulting in her death. Toxicology results indicated that her blood alcohol content was 0.179, significantly over the permissible limit for driving.

Notably, a grand jury in Rutland recently indicted the Huberts for their involvement in facilitating underage drinking that caused the fatality. The couple asserts they intervened that evening to prevent further underage drinking.

If found guilty, the Huberts could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Their subsequent court appearance is scheduled for August 24.
