On Thursday morning, a serious accident involving a stand-up electric scooter on Plain Road led to quick intervention from several bystanders, who played a crucial role in saving a man's life.
Around 8:57 a.m. on June 4, the Hinsdale Police Department received reports of a 35-year-old man lying unconscious in the street, with initial uncertainty regarding whether he had been hit by a vehicle. However, as the situation developed, it became clear that bystanders were actively engaged in assisting him by following guidance from 911 dispatchers.
According to emergency personnel who arrived on the scene, three individuals had stopped to help the injured man. Their composed demeanor and adherence to emergency instructions were pivotal in preventing his condition from worsening prior to medical help's arrival. The police chief emphasized that the decisive actions of these citizens likely played a key role in preserving the man's life.
The initial findings of the investigation suggest that the incident was not a hit-and-run, as authorities believe the man's injuries were sustained solely from the scooter accident itself. The police chief clarified that the available evidence did not support the theory of a vehicle being involved in a hit-and-run scenario.
The injured rider sustained a serious head trauma along with various abrasions. First responders from the Hinsdale Police Department, Hinsdale Fire Department, and Rescue Inc. provided immediate care, with the Hinsdale Water Department assisting in traffic management during the emergency. Subsequently, the man was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center for further treatment via UMass LifeFlight.
The ongoing investigation continues to seek witnesses, with officials inviting anyone with information to reach out to the Hinsdale Police Department.
