A final Federal Aviation Administration report has shed light on the July plane crash in Newport that ended with the aircraft going past the runway and into nearby trees.
The report says the pilot was making a turn from the base leg of the traffic pattern when another pilot announced an approach to an intersecting runway. After hearing that call, the pilot lowered the descent rate and continued with the landing attempt.
