A New Hampshire company is set to pay part of a settlement worth nearly half a million dollars after Massachusetts officials said it had sold meat and eggs from animals allegedly kept in conditions that broke state law.
Poultry Products Company of New England is among the businesses tied to the agreement. Under the terms, the companies will pay the settlement, stop distributing products that fail to meet Massachusetts requirements, and strengthen the way they check whether items comply with state rules.
Massachusetts officials said the products violated the state’s animal welfare law.
The agreement was reached only days after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to take up a challenge to Massachusetts’ animal welfare law.
